Popular free open source GUI library advances toward Mac OS X Aqua

Hollywood, California - July 19, 2003
GTK+OSX, the open source project to bring GTK+ natively to Mac OS X Aqua, has released developers version 0.4. Many features are still unimplemented, but enough progress has been made to show a pre-alpha version of CinePaint on Aqua. CinePaint is a deep paint program popular with motion picture studios. The GTK+OSX project was launched to help make CinePaint run natively on Mac OS X, instead of as an XDarwin session. CinePaint is currently available for Linux, Windows, and Mac XDarwin.
What's new in GTK+OSX version 0.4:
"GTK+OSX lead developer Andy Prock deserves a lot of credit", says project manager Robin Rowe. "Andy made a lot of progress in the menus and mouse features". Prock says, "My next step will be carbonizing the GDK layer -- to pick up better performance". GDK is the hardware compatibility layer of GTK+.
Prock is also the Mac port lead for CinePaint. No date release date is set for CinePaint on Aqua. It and GTK+OSX are continuing development. Porting GTK+ natively to Mac OS X can enable bringing over other popular GTK+ and GNOME applications from Linux, such a Gaim, Gnumeric, and many others. Hundreds of free open source Linux GUI applications are based on GTK+.
